If you’re planning a cruise that stops in the stunning village of Olden, Norway, you’re in for a treat. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped straight into a postcard.

Whether you’re an adventurer, a nature lover, or someone who just loves soaking up gorgeous views, Olden has something for everyone. While P&O Cruises and other cruise lines offer most of the excursions we’re about to share, it’s worth noting that these can be quite expensive when booked through the cruise line. For those looking to save money, booking independently can offer far better value – often at a fraction of the cost, with the same or even better experiences.

To help you make the most of your visit (without breaking the bank), we’ve rounded up the top 5 excursions you won’t want to miss.

Briksdal Glacier

If there’s one thing Olden is famous for, it’s the Briksdal Glacier. This incredible arm of the mighty Jostedalsbreen Glacier is a must-see. You can join a guided excursion that takes you on a gentle hike through the lush valley, past cascading waterfalls and blooming wildflowers, before reaching the glacier.

For those who prefer a less strenuous option, you can hop on a troll car (a small open vehicle) that takes you most of the way up. Once you arrive, you’ll be treated to jaw-dropping views of the ice-blue glacier. Don’t forget your camera – this is one of the most photographed spots in Norway!

Top Tip: Wear sturdy shoes and pack a waterproof jacket, as the weather can be unpredictable.

Loen Skylift and Mount Hoven

Fancy a bit of luxury with your adventure? The Loen Skylift is one of the steepest cable cars in the world, and it whisks you up to Mount Hoven in just five minutes. At the top, you’ll find panoramic views of the fjord, mountains, and glaciers that are nothing short of spectacular.

Aerial view of a scenic fjord with a metal structure on a mountain. Green valleys and winding river under a clear sky. Tranquil atmosphere.

There’s also a restaurant at the summit, so you can sip on a hot chocolate (or something stronger!) while taking in the views. If you’re feeling adventurous, there are plenty of hiking trails for all levels – or you can just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Top Tip: If you’re visiting during the summer, try to book an early-morning excursion to avoid the crowds.

Top Tip: Make sure to wrap up warm and take sunglasses – the glare off the water can be bright!

Kayaking on Oldebukta

For a peaceful yet adventurous experience, why not try kayaking on Oldebukta? This calm bay, part of the Nordfjord, offers some of the most stunning scenery in the area. Paddle along the fjord’s crystal-clear waters, surrounded by towering cliffs and lush green landscapes, with the snow-capped peaks of the surrounding mountains in the distance.
